Elizabeth Worgor 1769 Reproduction Sampler Pattern
Elizabeth Worgor 1769 Reproduction Sampler Pattern
Elizabeth Worgor 1769 is a reproduction of an original antique sampler currently housed in a private collection, and is in remarkably good shape for its 254 years.
Elizabeth executed her sampler in a combination of cross and Algerian eye stitches in a variety of colors, alphabets, and band styles. Her stitch count is 97 stitches wide by 193 stitches long, which means on 14 count Aida or a 28 count linen, the design size will be about 6 ⅞ x 13 ¾ inches. The model was stitched on 40 count Patriot’s Brew linen by R & R Reproductions using Au Ver à Soie 100/3 silk threads. On 40 count fabric, the design size is about 4 ⅞ x 9 ⅝ inches.
This pattern includes two charts: one full-color chart with symbols over color for the cross stitches and one mostly black and white chart with no color for the cross stitches. However, the Algerian eye stitches are rendered in color in both charts. I have also included visual instructions for the Algerian eye stitch.
Elizabeth’s sampler is a joy to stitch and is beginner friendly.
